Adjustment, fit, warranty and fabric: what separates a chair that lasts ten years from one that lasts two.
On this page
The task chair is the piece of furniture people touch the most, for the longest. It is also the one where cheap shows first.
Adjustments that matter
- Seat height and seat depth
- Adjustable lumbar support
- Arms that move up, down and in
- Tilt tension and a tilt lock
Mesh or upholstered?
Mesh backs breathe and suit warm rooms; upholstered seats are softer and easier to match to a finish palette. Many of the best chairs use both.
Try before you buy in bulk
Before ordering fifty, have a few people sit in two or three models for a day. The one that wins a day-long trial is rarely the one that wins a thirty-second showroom sit.
Read the warranty
Long warranties on the mechanism and cylinder are a good sign the maker expects the chair to last. We deliver chairs assembled and adjusted.
