Open Benching vs. Cubicles: Picking the Right Fit

The trade-offs between openness, privacy, noise and cost - and the options in between.

On this page
  1. Open benching
  2. Panel cubicles
  3. The middle ground

Benching and cubicles are both ways to seat a lot of people well. The right choice depends on how your team works, not on what is fashionable.

Open benching

Shared-frame desks with screens seat more people per square foot and make it easy to talk across the desk. They suit collaborative teams and grow simply by adding bays.

Panel cubicles

Panels bring privacy, sound control and built-in power. Low panels keep sightlines open; full heights suit phone-heavy and focused roles.

The middle ground

  • Benching with taller screens for more privacy
  • Low-panel cubicles with glass toppers
  • A mix: cubicles for focused roles, benching for teams

We lay out workstations for traffic flow, privacy and power, then build them on site.
